Who Was Don Campbell?
Don Campbell was a dedicated educator. He was the first Principal of G.H. Dawe when it became the first “Community School” in Red Deer, in 1978. He passed in 2004 from Leukemia. Don is remembered by his family as being grateful for everyone in his life. He wanted to model gratitude so others around him would be inspired to do the same.
As an educator, Don championed active citizenship, hands on learning, shared learning across multiple age groups, innovation, and creativity. Don prioritized building connections with families and community services, with the ultimate goal of helping each individual child. Don had a passion for literacy and often compared “The Builder of Marvelous Temples” to the building of a child’s life.
Don Campbell Elementary School will draw inspiration from Don’s life as an educator. His love for education will live on at Don Campbell Elementary.
